Programme profile
The games you play, the mobile phone you use to send text messages, the website where you do your online shopping. Technology is all around us, and is an important part of our lives. Too important to just leave it to technologists.
In Psychology & Technology you learn how technology influences people, and how you can use knowledge of psychology to let people use technology as effectively as possible. But you also learn how you can use psychology to design completely new technology applications such as motivational rehabilitation technology in healthcare, sociable robots or brain‑computer interfaces
TU/e’s world-class portfolio of Engineering degrees is underpinned by its ‘Bachelor College’. As a student of this Bachelor College you get plenty of scope to compose your own study on the basis of your interests and ambitions. Do you want to go deeper in a specific subject or would you rather explore the breadth by combining different subjects? Coaches and lecturers offer you support in whichever choice you make.
All programmes comprise [1] a Basic Foundation [2] a Basic Programme in User, Society & Enterprise [USE} [3] A Major [4] Electives. TU/e offers 15 majors, of which 7 are in English.
The Basic Foundation comprises Maths, Applied Natural Sciences, Modelling, Design, USE and Professional Skills.
The Psychology & Technology programme is a major in the BSc Innovation Sciences degree. All first years in the Innovation Sciences programme, share the first year, whatever their 2nd and 3rd year major might be.
Programme content
The programme consists of a number of ‘traditional’ psychology courses such as an introduction to psychology, the brain and behavior, perception and action, social psychology and cognitive psychology. It also includes more applied psychology, such as in the human factors course. Attention is given to application of the theory in projects at the cutting edge of psychology and technology. You need a knowledge of methodology and statistics to be able to carry out your own research, as well as to understand the research done by others, and these aspects are also integrated in the program. You have the option of gaining more in-depth knowledge in a technology subject of your own choice, for which a coherent package of technology courses will be offered. A list of the courses is shown below.
